Because I host Booknificent Thursdays every Thursday for family-friendly blog posts about all things books and literacy, I tend to visit A LOT of book blogs! A book that I have seen popping up on many of them throughout the past year is The Perpetual Papers of the Pack of Pets by Stanley and Katrina (affiliate link). All of the reviews have been really positive, and I remember thinking that the book sounded good and my kids would probably enjoy it, but since I’m not really an animal person, I didn’t race over to Amazon to get it.
Stanley and Katrina themselves even became regulars at the Booknificent party and I hopped around their blog and enjoyed their writing, but I still didn’t go and buy the book.
I regret that now.
It’s a really, really enjoyable read for kids and their moms too! It is written from a variety of perspectives, the bulk of the story being told by Stanley and Katrina themselves in their letters but with additional viewpoints added by a bird and an all-knowing narrator every now and again. I loved how each character had a consistent and unique voice. The wordiness of Katrina the cat followed by Stanley the dog’s concise replies made me chuckle a number of times as they strongly resemble my husband’s and my email and text conversations.
Another thing I loved about this book is that the content is appropriate for very young children who are advanced readers. We have two avid readers (ages 6 and 9) who are fully capable of reading tween fiction, but we their parents aren’t excited about exposing them to tween angst and content any earlier than necessary. This book is perfect as it’s hilariously funny without being rude or angry or in love.
I really highly recommend this book which is why I’m so excited to be a part of this blog tour! Make sure you get all the way to the end of this post since there’s a great giveaway for a $25 gift card!

“We enjoyed this book tremendously! It charmed us, made us laugh, and kept us wanting to read more. A tip of the hat to the pair of pets whose rivalry leads the story along its delightful course.” ~ Amazon Reviewer
