I’m always so thrilled when an author contacts me to review one of their books. I feel so honored! This happened recently when Julia Dweck contacted me to review two of her latest Kindle books.

I just noticed that Blucy is free for Kindle users today, so I decided to quickly get this review up. I have no idea how long it will stay free, so please don’t be mad at me if it’s not when you check. I’m typing as fast as I can; I promise! 🙂
Official summary: Once in a blue moon, a special pet comes along. When Mandy adopts the best cat at the shelter, she doesn’t realize it has a big secret and an even bigger personality. Features full screen images and pop-up text.
Our thoughts: Littlenificent loved the bold illustrations and how colorful the book is. She also enjoyed the cadence of the rhyming pattern of the story, making it a great read aloud to be enjoyed again and again.
Personally, my favorite thing about the book is the fun cat facts and a hidden picture page at the end of the book. I love how Julia always includes so many extras at the end of her books!
While I’ve been enjoying this book on a very young level with Littlenificent (age 3), exploring colors and emotions and proper ways of dealing with them, I agree wholeheartedly with Charlotte at Fabulous 5th grade fun that:
“So many great activities can be incorporated with this book . . . rhyming, camouflage, writing about the challenges of owning a pet, persuasive writing about getting a pet, character traits, compare and contrast with another animal book, animal rescue/animal shelters…”
I love using picture books like this with older students! I think it is so good to let them be kids for as long as possible!
So, hopefully, if you hurry, you can catch the flash sale at Amazon! Here’s that link again: Blucy: The Blue Cat($).
I’m planning to review Julia’s other book, Mary had a Sleepy Sheep($) next week so stay tuned for that! I’ll give you a little hint: I liked it even better than this one!
