It’s time for Five Minute Friday again! Five minutes of writing on a one word prompt. No editing. Just whatever comes out of our hearts. It’s amazing to see how just one word can draw out things that we’re already processing inside.
The word for today is “broken.” It’s such a sad word. I think of all the broken glasses from my butterfinger pregnant hands. Seriously, I broke like one a week. My husband bought more, and I broke those too. I banished myself to plastic, even though I hate drinking out of plastic. Now that the baby is here, I almost feel ready to go buy a new set. Almost.
I think of my broken iPhone power button. The phone still works. I just can’t turn it off or ever reset it ever again. But, this is where things get less sad, and I realize that brokenness almost always leads to restoration of some sort or other. My really good (and incredibly generous) friends just offered to help me get a new iPhone. Wow. I would have missed that blessing without the pain of broken.
And on a much smaller scale, I get to have the fun of shopping, finding, and buying a new set of glasses. Another blessing I would have missed without the brokenness.
It’s like that in every way because of God’s amazingness. He delights to take brokenness and make it whole or make it new or both. It all goes back to Jesus’ broken body. The saddest brokenness ever but what makes it possible for all things to be made whole and new. And we get to see that upside-downness in our lives in the big things and in the little insignificant ones. Like broken glasses and broken iPhones. Sadness ends up broken while we revel in joy as He makes all things whole and new!
(Yeah, he was totally worth all the broken glasses!) 🙂
Don’t forget to hop over to Desperate Homeschoolers, where we host a Five Minute Friday Kids’ Edition link-up each week! It is truly precious what these kiddos share (and I LOVE reading their comments to each other on the blogs!) I promise, you won’t be sorry if you hop over there. And please consider having your kids do their own five minutes of writing and link up with us!
Thanks for taking the time to be present here with me for a few minutes. I value you and the time you spend here! If you’d like to be notified when I have a new post, please consider subscribing to receive my blog by email (just enter your email address up on the sidebar) and/or hopping over to my facebook page to give me a “like.” Thanks!
