Here’s what I’ve been reading this week:
I must have been in a Regency mood this week because I plowed through two Austin-esque romances, Before the Season Ends($) by Linore Rose Burkard and Courting Miss Lancaster($) by Sarah Eden. I enjoyed both very much which is a little surprising as I’m actually not usually much of a Regency person. I highly recommend both of these books. They have fresh plots and characters and are really well written. I found them very satisfying. Right now, I’m in the middle of If the Shoe Fits: A Contemporary Fairy Tale($) by Sandra Bricker, which would usually be totally up my alley, but I’m not loving it. Maybe the jump from Regency to contemporary was too abrupt. Who knows?
I’m still slowly meandering through The Jesus Way: A Conversation on the Ways That Jesus Is the Way($) by Eugene Peterson and our small group is also still working through a chapter at a time from Devotional Classics: Selected Readings for Individuals and Groups($) by Richard J. Foster and James Bryan Smith. This week, we read an excerpt by Francis deSales, who lived in the late 1500s. It’s amazing and awesome to see how people dealt with the same God-stuff and life-stuff so long ago.
The kids and I started reading through Phillis Tickle’s The Divine Hours: Prayers for Summertime($) this week. This book includes prayers and readings for morning, noon, evening, and bedtime, and we have really been enjoying the liturgy and routine, as they bring a different component to our prayer times together.
How about you? What have you been reading this week? Anything worth a recommendation? I loved reading the recommendations you gave last week! Please keep them coming!
